For years, Magento 1 has been a popular e-commerce platform. Adobe launched the next version – Magento 2 – in 2015. But not everyone made the switch to the second version. A lot of web shops still run on the original software. Maybe your web shop does, too.
Still, after five years, Adobe thinks it’s time to pull the plug on Magento 1. So they’re going to stop supporting it. No more security updates, and no more technological upgrades. As of 1 June 2020, your Magento 1 web shop will become out-dated, and will become increasingly insecure. An upgrade to Magento 2 is a logical step, but that takes time, money and effort. It’s possible that you don’t have the (financial) capacity to do that right now.
Luckily, there’s an excellent alternative to keep you running on Magento 1: Mage One. It’s an initiative driven by several developers. When Adobe stops supporting Magento 1, Mage One will take over. Starting on 1 June, Mage One will deliver complete security updates and technical upgrades for Magento 1 web shops.
Mage One is a great solution for everyone who wants to postpone the switch to Magento 2. And, as an official Mage One partner, Mollie guarantees that you’ll still safely receive your payments. Whether through Apple Pay, credit card, PayPal or any other payment method. We’ll keep our payment plug-in running for at least another year, and we’ll keep our quality standards as high as they’ve always been. So you can keep moving forward.
Please note: not all Payment Service Providers (PSPs) will connect with Mage One. Some PSPs will choose to simply end all of their Magento 1 payment modules. Others will offer a few extra months of support. If you’re not yet a Mollie client, check with your PSP to see what they plan to do.
Also, as a PSP, Mollie is still required to remain PCI compliant, even after Adobe stops supporting Magento 1. And as a web shop owner, you’re also still responsible for keeping your PCI compliance. Need help with that? We’d love to think along with you.
